A statement issued by the Ministry of Education indicates that “the same registration procedures provided for students of Italian nationality apply to students of non-Italian nationality” and that parents with irregularities must also register their children at school.
Registration in person for undocumented foreigners
The statement, explained by the Italian Interior Ministry’s “Integrazione migranti” (integration of migrants) website, stressed that applications must be filed online – with the exception of foreign parents in an irregular situation – for schools primary and secondary public via the website of the Ministry of Education.

The online procedure is optional for state-recognized private primary and secondary schools and can only be used for vocational training in certain regions (Calabria, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Molise, Piedmont, Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Umbria and Veneto).
Parents or guardians who are not Italian citizens and who do not have a tax code, as is the case for undocumented foreigners, can go to the school of their choice to enroll students in person with the documents they have.
